She was born in Monongahela, Pa October 9, 1925 to William and Mabel Smith. She had three daughters. In 1977 she traveled to Sun Valley while visiting her daughter in Twin Falls and fell in love with the area. In 1979 she made Sun Valley her home. She was a member and Elder of the Church of the Big Wood, served on the Library Board and worked at the SNRA. She retired from the Forest Service when she was 82. Cross-country skiing, hiking, birds and wildflowers became her passion. “if you are going to live in the mountains you had better learn how to ski and enjoy their beauty.” The Church of the Big Woods and the Forest Service became her second and third family. Jason Bacon, Sergio and Ana spent many hours at ‘grandmas’/’nana’s climbing her mountain. She was always ready to extend a hand to help.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Robbins of Bangor, PA, Dianne Roach of Seattle, WA and Barbara (Alek “Sasha”) Pavlovic of Twin Falls; grandson Jason (Socorro) Bacon of Twin Falls, Peter Richardson of Bangor, PA, great-grandchildren Sergio and Ana Bacon and Elizabeth II her cat.
Thank you to Dr Aaron Brown, Travis and Michelle for their tender care and support.
Please join the family at a memorial service at the Church of the Big Woods in Ketchum September 30 at 4:30.
