Sandy was born March 5, 1949 in Worcester, Massachusetts; to Robert and Maude Plouf. At the age of three she moved to California with her family after her father was recruited by Howard Hughes as a master tool and die maker. Growing up Sandy loved participating in competitive go-cart racing.
Sandy was a driven student where she excelled in her studies. Throughout her school years she was in the gifted and accelerated learning programs. In 1967 she graduated Cleveland High School in the San Fernando Valley, California.
In 1970 she met Tom, the love of her life, and they were married later that year. They were blessed with three children, Danielle, Wendy Ann, and Richard. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.
As a mother of three, she continued her education at Cerritos Junior College and Long Beach State where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She was the only and first female at that time to receive two money scholarships from the same institution at the same time.
Sandy worked as a credit counselor and also worked for the City of Downey California Library. While obtaining her Master’s Degree Sandy worked full-time for the City of Riverside Library. After obtaining her degree Sandy was promoted to librarian. She was integral in implementing a computer lab into the library program. She was selected to participate in a research program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which included security software and hardware implementation for the library. During this time Sandy volunteered countless hours teaching underprivileged children how to read and write and helped them with their homework. She was a life time member of the Omicron Nu National Honor Society.
On Sept. 9, 2005, after serving more than 25 years in library service, Sandy retired from the Riverside Library and she and Tom moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. Sandy found great joy in her family. She was a master at sewing, quilting, embroidery and needlepoint.
