Dale Gay, a true cowboy at heart, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 71 in Big Sandy, TX. He lived a life as wide as the open plains, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a love for the simple things. He was a man of words and lots of stories, a master horseman, and a friend to all who crossed in his path.
Dale was born on January 28, 1954 in Tyler, TX to Wayne and Reta Gay and graduated from John Tyler High School in 1972. Dale was passionate about the outdoors, love of horses and spent years in Wyoming and Montana working ranches and as hunting guide. He met his wife, Dianne, and they married in 1993. Dianne's love and knowledge of horses and horsemanship was a true match to Dale. Their life together was an adventurous one lending to wonderful lasting memories. Their home was in Big Sandy. Dale spent every morning reading his Bible with a cup of coffee. He could quote scripture and loved sharing his wisdom with others. Dale loved his family, friends, and was known to give the shirt off his back to strangers.
He is survived by his wife Dianne of 31 years, daughter Karri Reynolds, granddaughter Ivy Smith (Nick Jones), step-grandson Brody Reynolds, parents Reta and Norris Janssen, sister Debbie (Gay) Hemmelgarn, three great-grandchildren, one niece and nephew, several cousins, and an uncle.
Dale was predeceased by his father, Wayne Gay, and grandmother, Opal King.
"He rode into the sunset leaving behind a trail of memories that will forever echo in our hearts."
