

He was retired from the U S Army in 1970 after 20 years of service. He served in the United States, Japan, Korea, France, Germany and Indonesia. He also retired from W. C. Supply Co. in 1995 and continued to work there part time for the past year.
Mr. Carter is survived by Verna (Ginger) Carter, his wife of 53 years and by two sons, David of Ft. Worth, TX and Jeffrey of Grand Prairie, TX; four daughters, Donna Ingram of Cartersville, GA., Lisa Land of Chandler, TX., Deborah Boyd and husband, Steve of Gladewater, TX., Sharon Owens and husband, Jimmy of Streetman, TX. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; Patrick, Jeramiah, Anessa, Justin, Shawn Joe David, Molly, Jennifer, Cody Joe, Jared, Carmen, Michael David, Kaylea and Aerin; six great-grandchildren, Sierra, Devyn, Katlyn, Nelek, Alexander and Lacy; brother, W. T. Carter of Smyrna, GA; three sisters, Beatrice Lombard, Velma Welchel and Catherine Dunagan, all of Georgia. Mr. Carter is preceded in death by a grandson, Leslie Scott; two sisters, Jennie Carter and Jewel Smith; four brothers, Buford, Thomas, Walter and Johnny Carter.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p. m. at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Broad Street in Chandler with Rev. Jeff McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Park.
