
Harriette Ann Williams, 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Tyler, Texas. She was born July 8, 1922 in Alexander City, AL to Phillip M. (Mack) and Bernice S. Jackson. Raised in Alex City, she graduated from Alexander City High School and later attended Southern Seminary in Virginia. In 1944, while visiting friends in Louisiana, she met and later married her “blind date,” Charles E. Williams, Jr. During their 64 year marriage, she supported her husband’s 37 year military career on various assignments from coast to coast and in Japan. She was active in all phases of military life, including the Presidency of several Officer Wives Clubs and Family Services Organizations. She worked with the Kansas State School for the Blind; learning to read and write in Braille to create documents and teach students. She was an active member of her church as First and Second Reader, soloist and taught Sunday school. Settling in San Antonio after military retirement, she was active in several Golf organizations, tutored at a local elementary school and assisted with real estate assessments and appraisals. Upon the death of her husband in 2009, she moved to the Tyler, TX area to be closer to family. Nicknamed “Dahling” by her grandchildren, she is survived by her son, Charles E. Williams, III; daughter, Martha Ann Colburn; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The family will have private funeral services at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home. She will be interred with her beloved husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.
