Joan Smith, 84, of Whitehouse, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. Born March 9, 1941, in Wright City, Texas, to Perry Carson Mullican and Willie Dema Mullican, Joan was known throughout her life for her boundless love, generous spirit, and the warmth of her home. She made it her mission to ensure that everyone around her felt cared for—and well fed—with countless memories centered around her delicious southern cooking and the comfort of a full belly at her table. Joan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She poured her heart into every relationship, always showing up with open arms, listening ears, and a fierce love that never wavered. Her home was a sanctuary for her children and grandchildren—a place of laughter, prayer, and the kind of unconditional support that made everyone feel safe and seen. Joan’s life was woven together by the people she loved most.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter Tanya Hastings and her husband Tim Hastings of Lindale, TX; daughter Sonya DeVuyst and her husband David DeVuyst of Tyler; son Kirk Smith of Whitehouse; and daughter Nikki Aylor of Bullard. She also leaves behind a legacy of countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward the joy, strength, and faith she instilled in her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Perry Carson Mullican and Willie Dema Mullican; her beloved husband, Hubert Smith; and her son, Perry Joe Smith.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and family members: Dalon Hastings, Kaleb Smith, Stephen Smith, Sky Bland, Payton Aylor, and Casey Hammons. "She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household... Her children arise and call her blessed." – Proverbs 31
