John, a retired truck driver for Central Freight, was born on July 11, 1934 in Flint. He was a U.S. Army veteran as well as an accountant and lived in Mesquite for 39 years before moving to Tyler in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Val and Minnie Carter and is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Barbara Carter of Flint; sons, Randy and his wife, Cindy Carter, of Rosenberg; Greg Carter, of Mesquite; Brad Carter, of Mesquite; and 3 grandchildren, Chris Carter, of Mesquite, Justin Carter, of Denver and Julian Carter, of Rosenberg. Also surviving are his siblings, Thomas Carter, of New Braunfels and Nancy Dahm, of Boston, Massachusetts.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2015 with visitation 1 hour prior at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West, Tyler.
