Lisa Carol Levy, 65, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 Highway 64 West, Tyler, at 10:30 AM.
Lisa was born to the late Herbert M. Levy and Mary Bailen Levy on August 14, 1952.
She grew up in Flushing, New York, and graduated from Francis Lewis High School. Later she studied at Long Island University’s Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy in Brooklyn, New York and had a rewarding career as a pharmacist, both in New York City and in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Animals were Lisa’s passion and delight. She loved horses and became an avid rider. In 2008, Lisa moved to Santa Fe and became the proud owner of a beautiful horse named Tambore (“Tam”). Riding on trails in the Cerrillos hills south of Santa Fe was a favorite pastime. She also learned the difficult skill of dressage-style riding. A member of the community of horse-lovers in Santa Fe describes horse Tam as “having the patience of a saint,” and having a “perfect blend of good education, patience and sensibility.” Lisa also loved cats and sometimes took in strays to nurse them back to health.
Lisa loved pharmacy, her chosen profession, because she saw it as a way to help people. She took Spanish lessons so she could better serve some of her customers. In Santa Fe she was the pharmacist at Albertson’s.
Traveling to foreign lands was another passionate interest of Lisa’s. She visited India and Israel, as well as Belize, Peru and the Galapagos Islands, returning home with beautiful pictures and interesting stories.
Lisa moved to Tyler in 2011 in order receive better oversight for some health issues. She came to know some wonderful people who befriended her, loved and helped her.
Survivors include her sister, Suzanne Levy of Tyler, nephew Abe Levy and his wife Teri, grandniece Corinne and grandnephews Joshua and Landon of San Antonio, cousins Ron and Lynn Bleiberg and their children and grandchildren of New Fairfield, Connecticut.
Donations in Lisa’s memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund, online at www.jnf.org or mailed to Jewish National Fund, 78 Randall Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY 11570
