Sim Yim or Sammy, was born in a village in the Guangdong Province of China. He traveled to America to seek the American dream, traveling in New York and California and eventually settled in Texas. He met his wife, Alice Lai So Chin, via a matchmaker in California and married in 1979. Together they raised their two daughters in Texas. For the majority of Sammy’s adult life, he worked as a cook at various Asian restaurants, as a lawn maintenance specialist, and as an employee of Brookshires. Sammy and his wife enjoyed time together by taking mini trips to Louisiana until her death in 2007. Sammy officially retired in 2008. He filled his time with fishing at Lake Tyler and Lake Palestine, tending to his backyard garden growing various Asian vegetables, or watching American football. His greatest accomplishment in life was being a grandfather. He enjoyed being involved in raising three of five grandchildren. His most memorable moment was being surrounded by the sounds of all five grandchildren under one roof in Summer 2023.
He is survived by his two daughters, Allison and Audrey, their spouses and children.
