Verena Lumley Munday was born in Montgomery, Alabama on May 20, 1948 to William Lumley and Alice Lumley. She passed peacefully on March 30, 2026, surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Verena dedicated 37 years of her professional life to Sprint, a career that took her from Texas to Oregon, Kansas, South Carolina and Tennessee where she helped launch the first wireless call
centers for Sprint FON company. Her success was due to a strong work ethic and commitment. Verena was the beloved wife and soulmate of Ronald Munday, her best friend and devoted partner of 45 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and service.
For the past 20 years, Verena made her home in Troup, Texas, where she became a cherished member of the community and a faithful member of Flint Community Church. She found great joy quilting with her dear friends, lovingly known as the Joyful Chicks at A Joyful Thread. She also loved fishing, participating in church activities, and—most of all—being present for her grandchildren, attending their events and celebrating their lives with pride and
enthusiasm.
The oldest of seven children, Verena was a natural caretaker—deeply devoted to her family and fiercely protective of those she loved.
Verena was preceded in death by her parents William Lumley and Alice Lumley. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Munday; her children, Sheila and Beau Johnson, Kim and Joel
Donner, Kelby and Jennifer McCoy, and David Munday; and her cherished grandchildren, Dusty and Kolton Johnson, Jordan and Alex Doughty, and Ryan and Maddox McCoy, who all loved her dearly.
Butterflies and sunflowers held a special place in Verena’s heart, perfectly symbolizing her spirit—tough, resilient, and full of warmth and love. She created meaningful connections and lifelong friendships. Verena’s legacy is one of faith, devotion, kindness, and enduring love. She will be deeply missed but will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
