

Donald H. McLarty, age 86, of Gales Ferry, passed away February 23, 2012 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born on February 13, 1926 in New York City to the late Watson and Elizabeth (Tubbriddy) McLarty. He married his wife Theodora Ethel (Abrahamsen) McLarty on November 3, 1946 in New York, New York.
Donald was a Senior Chief in the Navy, serving on board the USS Wedderburn, the USS Washington, the USS Yosemite and the USS Noxube. He retired after 23 years of service as a World War II South Pacific Veteran. He worked at General Dynamics retiring in 1988 as a welder inspector and supervisor. He was a master craftsman, an avid gardener, animal lover and Yankee fan but most of all loved his family.
Donald leaves behind his loving wife Teddy, six children Donald McLarty of Gales Ferry, Brian McLarty of Gales Ferry, Madeline Scarratt and companion Russ Dinoto of Old Lyme, Barry McLarty of Gales Ferry, Eileen Stephens and her husband Gary of Tenn., and Christine Nieto and her husband Steve of Montville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Cheryl Grudier, Thomas Grudier, Tina Stephens, Jeffery Stephens, Michael DePasquale, Sheri Compton, and Shane Scarratt, 12 great grandchildren Haley, Jarret, Travis, Avery, Zoey, Nathan, Tyler, Christian, Jayce, Cloe, Riley, Noah, and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his turkeys, his ducks and his furry friends. Donald is predeceased by a daughter Geraldine Grudier, a son Douglas McLarty and a sister Beatrice Kemph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Church, Maple Ave., Uncasville on Monday February 27th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, PO Box 41, Quaker Hill, CT 06375.
