Erinn Alicia (Hungerford) Brouwer, 49, beloved mother, daughter, sister, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 4, 2024, at Backus Hospital, Norwich, CT. She was a bright light in this world and will forever be missed by so many who loved her.
Erinn was born on July 16, 1975, to Shelley Jo Hungerford and Edward Howard Hungerford in Bridgeport, CT. She grew up in Stratford, CT and attended Bunnell High School, graduating class of 1993. Erinn went on to have a career in banking, working for People’s Bank (later M&T Bank) for over 25 years, holding a variety of roles from teller to sales and service supervisor. She spent a large portion of her career at the Stop & Shop branch in Montville, CT, where she developed many close relationships with her co-workers and customers. Erinn very much loved her friends and colleagues whom she considered to be her People’s/M&T work family.
Erinn’s absolute delight in life was being mother to her two children, Garrett and Abbie Brouwer. They were her pride and joy, and she felt it was her honor to be their mom. In addition to her children, Erinn also leaves her cherished partner, Braden Mellin, who, along with close family and friends, provided wonderful support and comfort to Erinn in her last months, weeks, and days. She is survived by her parents, Shelley Hungerford and Doreen Anderson of Southbury, and Edward and Vivien Hungerford of Milford; brothers Edward Hungerford Jr (Cynthia Rudd), Brett Hungerford (Christine Dean), Ryan Hungerford (Jennifer Falman); step sisters Nicole (Richard) Papcun, Danielle (Victoria) Wise; nieces Reilly Hungerford, Samantha and Madeline Papcun, Virginia and Katherine Juarbe; nephews Kyle Hungerford, Zachary Wise; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Erinn will be remembered for her beautiful smile that could light up a room, and her ability to find humor and laugh in any situation. She was kind, generous, down to earth, funny, and loved a good party. Erinn was a friend to all and loved by all. Because of her ability to be genuine and caring, she developed many deep friendships throughout her life, including many in the Lisbon, CT community, where she lived. Erinn was one of a kind, a bright, joyful spirit, and a loving soul. The world will never be the same without her.
Erinn’s family and friends would like to extend our deep appreciation to the medical caregivers who were so wonderful to her. Special thanks to Dr. Bailey and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Dr. Nick and staff, local oncology at Backus, as well as the wonderful nurses and staff who supported Erinn during her last weeks and days at Backus Hospital. We will be forever grateful for your support and kindness shown along the way. We would also like to thank the many Lisbon area families who provided a “village” in Erinn’s time of need, giving support to Garrett and Abbie for extended periods of time during treatment, as well as all who helped with financial support, well wishes, and prayers.
