She was born in Palermo Sicily on Jan. 8, 1932 to the late Giocondo and Angela (Benigno) Pellegrino. She met and married her beloved husband Giovanni in Palermo on April 14, 1951. They immigrated to the US together where Gioconda would work in the Manhattan Garment District for almost 40 years as a finishing seamstress. While she was predeceased by her dear husband in 1979, that would not stop the strength and fortitude of being there for her family, raising them alone all while providing for them. She was a pillar of strength and outwardly tough, she was a very giving and gentle woman at heart. In her retirement years she moved to the area from New York with her daughter Enza and enjoyed travelling, shopping, and sewing.
Gioconda is survived by her sons; Alfred and his wife Maria, Salvatore and his wife Rose Alba, daughter Enza Langella, two sisters still in Italy; Iolanda and Fillippina, and four grandchildren; John and Gabriella Bottone, Christopher Langella, and John Valero.
