

Uncasville-Milton Arthur Heberding “Many Claws”, age 82, of Uncasville, passed away at his home on August 3, 2012. He was born on March 16, 1930 in Norwich, CT to the late Christopher and Florence (Sholes) Heberding. He married his loving wife Meryl (Fielding) Heberding on September 27, 1952 at the Montville Methodist Church. She predeceased him in 2009.
“Pa” as he was known by everyone, enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery, or to just sit on his porch telling stories to his family and friends. He was an avid craftsman who built his own home and loved doing wood crafts, walking sticks and leather work. He was a member of the Connecticut River Pow Wow Society, and the Eagle Wing Press. He was a lifetime Deacon at the Mohegan Congregational Church. He and his wife were major contributors to the revitalization of the Mohegan Pow Wow and even traveled to Arizona to participate in the New Year’s Eve Pow Wow in 2000.
Milton is survived by a son Thomas Heberding Sr. and his wife Catherine of Uncasville, a son Daniel Heberding and his wife Elizabeth of Stafford Springs, a daughter Carol Johnson and her husband Michael of Ledyard, a daughter Kathleen Bernier and her husband Larry of Norwich, a daughter Linda Jordan of Norwich and a daughter in law Joyce Heberding of Gales Ferry. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son Christopher Heberding.
Family and friends may visit the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Norwich New London Tpke., Uncasville on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Shantok Burial Ground.
