Robert or “Bob” as his friends and family knew him served faithfully and gallantly in the United States Army as a rifleman during World War II. He served in the 8th Infantry Division 121st Regiment and experienced combat during the mop up of France and the pursuit of the German Army across France in 1944. He was severely wounded in November 1944 in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest.
Despite his disabilities, he married Verna Watrous and raised three children. He worked as a cabinet maker, and took up oil painting later in life.
He will always be remembered for telling a good joke. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and a great story teller. His greatest thrill was to make others laugh.
His view of life has and will continue to inspire others to keep on going despite the adversity.
He is survived by his loving wife Verna ( married 57 years), his sister Phyllis McCall, his daughter Robin Shaughnessy and her husband Thomas; who also blessed him with four granddaughters, Tiffany, (her husband Jerry Franceschetti), Sarah, (her fiancé John Wilson), Susan, (her husband Miguel Marrero), and Kristy Shaughnessy. He is also survived by his sons Robert and Jeffrey and his great grandson Brayden Marrero.
