
UNION—Services for Mrs. Josephine Elizabeth Howell Jones will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, February 3rd, at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery, with Stephens Funeral Home of Union in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Jones, age 93, of Union, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, January 30th, at Infinity Hospice in Marion.
Josephine “Jo”, as she was known, was born to Josiah Daniel and Susie Lewis Howell on May 26, 1919 in Crystal Springs, MS. Jo grew up in the rural area and enjoyed regaling her grandchildren with tales of hr tomato farming on her family farm. Josephine married Allen Jones of Crystal Springs. They lived several years in Bogalusa, LA, before moving to Union in 1960, due to Allen’s job with GM&0 and ICG railroads. Jo was an active member of Union First Baptist Church and she especially enjoyed her Sunday School Class. Mammaw’s family will sorely miss her for several reasons but especially her wonderful cooking and her divinity!
Survivors include three sons: Carroll Jones and his wife, Paula, of Fultondale, AL, Stanley Jones and his wife, Laura, of Union, and Mike Jones and his wife, Pauletta, of Meridian; eight grandchildren: Greg (Kelly) Jones, Gary Jones, Gwen (Kevin) Freeman, Gloria (Mark) Thomas, Heather (Johnny) Patchin, Jason Jones, Carrie Jones, and Alana Jones; ten great grandchildren: Roslyn Jones Raddo, Josh Jones, Geoffrey Jones, Allison Jones, Allen Jones, Jordan Freeman, Jacob Freeman, Josie Freeman, Natalie Patchin, and Trevor Patchin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Jones, parents, Josiah Daniel and Susie Lewis Howell, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 2nd, from 5 – 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Sunday, Feb. 3rd, at the funeral home.
Family request that donations be made to Union First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will be Jo’s grandsons and Wayne Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church of Union.
