

Elizabeth O'Hara (nee McCarrick), a resident of Union, New Jersey, was born on November 27, 1936, in Mountaff, Aclare, County Sligo, Ireland. She passed peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of her cherished family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Michael J. O'Hara, her sons, Michael P., Colum, and Christopher, daughters-in-law, Nicola and Jessica, and grandchildren, Shauna and David. She was predeceased by her brother Patrick and sisters Bridget, Mary, and Kathleen.
Before dedicating her life to raising her family in New Jersey, Elizabeth worked as a telephone operator for NY Bell Telephone Company, where she received awards for her exceptional performance during emergency situations, including assisting with the delivery of a baby and helping a heart attack victim.
Elizabeth was devoted to her family, known for her Irish breakfasts, legendary whiskey sours, and generous spirit with her grandchildren. Her warmth, patience, and fairness shaped the lives of those she loved.
A committed Roman Catholic, she was an active member of St. Michael's Church in Union, NJ, and supported several religious missions, including the National Shrine of St. Jude Claretian Missionaries, the Marianist Mission, and the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. She also served her community as a past Democratic Committee Person for the Township of Union.
Elizabeth will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful friend, a good listener, and someone whose humor and presence brightened every room. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were enriched by her life. She is now at peace, reunited with those who went before her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083, US, on March 12, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 1212 Kelly St, Union, NJ 07083 on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:15am followed by interment in the Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083.
