Ferman was born on July 13, 1955, to Ferman R. DeHart and June (nee Benz).
Ferman was born and raised in Union, NJ, where he began his passion as a carpenter, building homes with his father.
Ferman met the love of his life, Jean, when they were children attending Holy Spirit School. They went on to marry years later and raised two children, Kenny and Heather.
When not working with his hands, Ferman enjoyed his time coaching youth baseball at the Little League, teener league, and American Legion levels, playing softball with the Union Elks, bowling, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Ferman was a member of the Union Elks Lodge #1583, serving as Exalted Ruler and Youth Activities Chairperson, where he supported children with special needs and the drug awareness program. He enjoyed vacationing and spending summers on the Jersey Shore with his family and ultimately relocated to Toms River in 2024.
Ferman’s pride and joy were those who called him Pop – Kevin, Jack, Kyle, Bradan, and Maelyn. He cherished the time he had spent attending their school events, activities, sports, and dance recitals. His baby blue eyes would light up watching them do what they loved. He doted on them with jokes, silly faces, and love.
Upon retirement, Ferman continued to enjoy helping family and friends with home repairs, cooking, and taking day trips with Jean, creating memories with his grandchildren, umpiring for USABL youth baseball, and baking his mom’s famous apple pie. He was also a crossing guard in the Township of Union for over two decades. Ferman was always seen with a beagle by his side, a baseball cap on his head, and a smile on his face.
Ferman is predeceased by his parents, Ferman R. and June DeHart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean (nee Reynolds), their two children, Kenneth (Jennifer) DeHart and Heather (Richard) Gawlowski, and his greatest treasures, Kevin, Jack, Kyle, Bradan, and Maelyn. Ferman leaves behind two sisters, Linda (Anthony) DiGiovanni, Candy (Robert) Longo; in-laws, Elaine (Paul) Padgett, Bud (Robin) Reynolds, and Bill (Debra) Reynolds; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Ferman during a visitation at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ, on Sunday, January 4, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 5, at 10:15 am at Holy Spirit Church in Union, NJ.
Interment to follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ.
