She was born in Ecuador on October 4, 1959, to Edelmira Gallegos and the late Augustin Carabajo. She is predeceased by her husband, Isidro Calderon, and sister Emma Carabajo.
At just 18 years old, Julia fell in love with Isidro, and they wed on January 26, 1978, before coming to the U.S. and starting a family. A proud nurse, Julia lovingly and passionately served her community for over 20 years, specializing in geriatrics. She loved having a good time: you could always catch her at Noches de Colombia or the Ugly Dumpling, enjoying food with her family and a gin & tonic. She never turned down an opportunity to be out and about with her loved ones. If you knew Julia, you know she would never miss an episode of Exatlón on Telemundo. More than anything, she loved being Grayson and Cambrie’s Baba.
She is survived by her daughters, Karina and Jessica; Jessica’s husband, Michael; her two grandchildren, Grayson and Cambrie; her mother, Edelmira; her siblings, Nestor, Cesar, and Luis; and many friends and family in the United States and Ecuador.
She will be deeply and desperately missed by her many friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial in celebration of her life on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. At the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her selflessness and care.
