Nazar was born on March 3, 1938, in Indore, India to Yusufali and Aminabai Haidri, who moved their family to a small town in East Africa during World War II. In 1950, the family moved to Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania. At age 17, Nazar returned to India to attend The Daly College and MGM Medical College, graduating in 1961.
Following his graduation from medical school, Nazar returned to Dar es Salaam in January 1963 and applied to residency programs in the United States. Six months later, he boarded the Queen Mary to New York City and his amazing professional journey began. Nazar made his way to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he completed his medical internship and residency. He was then accepted into the neurology residency program at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.
In 1970, Nazar joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War as Assistant Chief of Neurology and ultimately attained the rank of Major as the Chief of Neurology at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Nazar relocated his family across the country following his appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and Director of Electromyography at the Rutgers University New Jersey College of Medicine in Newark, New Jersey.
In 1984, Dr. Haidri left the medical school to start his own practice in Union, New Jersey. He went on to have one of the largest and most successful neurology practices in New Jersey with over 50,000 patients on file. Dr. Haidri loved his work, his practice, and most of all meeting and helping others. He had a passion for geography and loved to learn about his patients and their life stories.
In 2016, Governor Chris Christie appointed Dr. Haidri to the State Board of Medical Examiners in New Jersey. Dr. Haidri received board certification in neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He also held certification in headache medicine and neuroimaging from the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties and was certified in electrodiagnostic medicine. He was a member of the the American Academy of Neurology, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Headache Society, the American Society of Neuro-imaging, and the Union County Medical Society.
Dr. Haidri was the patriarch of the Haidri family. His foresight, generosity and hard work has helped us all in so many ways. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cynthia; his daughter Shab; his son Riaz and his wife Christina; his four beloved grandchildren, Evan, Julia, Lana, and Ariana; the mother of his children, Shamima; his step sons Erik, his wife Wanchen and their children Issaya and Malis; Mark and his children Austin and Preston; his siblings, Saida, Rashida and her husband Ashok, Amir, Shehnaz and her husband Quresh, and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, on Wednesday, February 12, 4-8pm. A memorial service will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union on Thursday, February 13, 10am. Interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park & Cemetery, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union.
