

Patrick Joseph Dowling beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Palm Bay, FL, formerly of Scotch Plains NJ, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 24 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James the Apostle Church 45 South Springfield Avenue Springfield, NJ, on Monday December 2, 2024 at 11AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Newark, NJ. The family will receive their friends at McCracken Funeral home 1500 Morris Avenue Union, NJ, on Sunday December 1, 2024 from 2-6 PM. Patrick was predeceased by his parents Michael and Margaret Dowling, and his wife of more than six decades, Patricia.
He is survived by his devoted children Michael Dowling, Catherine (Ed) Deel and Maura (Mike) Disko and his cherished grandsons who were his pride and joy; Michael, Matthew, Christopher and Ryan.
Born in Carlow, Ireland, Patrick immigrated to the United States and made a home in Elizabeth NJ. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and served during the Korean War and thereafter graduated from Seton Hall University. He was a devout Catholic and a long time congregant of St. Genevieve’s Church. He had a gifted voice and was a member of the Glee Club of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, performing in many clubs and theaters in NJ and NY.
Patrick was a Risk Manager for the County of Union, before his retirement in 1996. He and Patricia also lived in Brick, NJ where they enjoyed the Jersey Shore. He was an avid gardener and soccer fan watching the European Leagues and American Soccer. His greatest joy in life was watching his grandsons play soccer and being a vocal cheerleader from the sideline.
