Rose Garcia

Rose M. Garcia, 95, of Hillside, New Jersey passed away on Friday, January, 7, 2022 at home. Her husband, and love of her life, Antonio (Tony) Garcia had predeceased her in 2014. Rose was born on March 17, 1926 in Newark, NJ. Rose was a graduate of Barringer High School and worked for the Prudential Insurance Company for many years before marrying Tony and starting a family.

Rose was a member of the Union County Bowling League for the benefit of mentally handicapped children and was involved with the local PTA, Hillside Little League Ladies Auxiliary, and other various ladies organizations. Rose loved travelling with the Knights of Columbus and the Italian American Civic Association to the many vacation destinations they visited. Her favorite New Jersey spots included Long Branch, Atlantic City, and Wildwood Crest. She also loved travelling to Miami Beach and Orlando to visit Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney World decorated at Christmas time.

Rose also loved cooking and baking with Tony, especially around the holidays. At Easter they would make the "Italian Meat Pie" together and at Christmas they would bake their traditional cookies along with Rose's famous Christmas Fruit Cake.

Rose was predeceased by her parents, Vincenzo and Mildred DeRienzo, brother Vincent, sister Serafina Nappi, and nieces Maria Dellanno, and Judith Langheld Durkin. She is survived by her loving and devoted son Anthony Garcia, several nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends.

A visitation for Rose will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. A mass will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 984 Suburban Road, Union, NJ 07083, followed by entombment at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
