Carolyn Hawkins (Churchill) passed away peacefully at Atria Del Rey in Rancho Cucamonga, California, where she thrived during the final year of her life, forming cherished relationships with both residents and staff. Born on December 27, 1942, in Pomona, California, Carolyn lived most of her life in Upland, where she was deeply connected to her community.
Carolyn spent her career as a secretary with the Chino School District, a role she held with dedication and consistency. Outside of work, she was active in her church and was known for her willingness to help others in practical and thoughtful ways.
A lifelong animal lover, Carolyn had a particular fondness for desert tortoises. She also had a well-known love of strawberries and collected them in many forms. Friendships were important to Carolyn, and she cultivated relationships that lasted decades, such as lifelong friend and neighbor Marjorie Benesh.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Donna Hawkins Mayo (husband Mayo, sons Giovani and Edwind) and Diana Summers (husband Danny, daughters Tristan and Annika); her great-grandchildren, Charley and Phoebe; her sister, Jan Mohler (husband Bob, daughters Carla and Jennifer).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter in Carolyn’s honor.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
