Dolores was born in 1929 to Jennie and Lundy Hilfiker in St. Louis, Missouri. While studying Geology and Latin American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, she met and married the love of her life, Theodore Karros. They started their family in Guatemala while Ted worked for the U.S. State Department with the birth of their son, Paul. They returned to St. Louis and their family grew with daughter, Cristina, and son, Phillip. The Karros family built, owned, and operated Le Chateau Village in St. Louis for 40 years.
In 1986, Ted and Dolores moved to Upland, California to enjoy retirement. A fluent speaker of Spanish and German, she traveled extensively throughout North and South America and Europe with friends and family. She put her artistic talents toward metalsmithing, needlepointing, and award-winning quilting. Her baked goods and meals were the centerpiece of decades of gatherings. Dolores had a reputation of making beautifully perfect creations and was generous with her friendship and unconditional love.
