1/4/32 to 3/18/12
Joe was raised in Washington Park, Illinois. After serving for two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict he was able to attend college. In 1955 he married his wife Loretta. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1960 with a BSME. While in college he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. In 1972 his job brought him and his family to California. They loved Southern California so much that Joe decided to purchase a small business in 1974, which he operated until his retirement in 1989. Joe was an avid golfer, and a very active member of Red Hill Country Club for over 40 years. Despite his love of the Red Hill golf course, it was not always kind to him. His brother and wife both got holes-in-one - something he never accomplished! He served as President in 1994 and was instrumental in numerous improvements to the course and facilities. Fishing and flying, were also favorite hobbies of Joe and he combined the two for many trips to Punta Final in Mexico. Joe had a green thumb. He took a lot of pride in his yard and vegetable garden. Joe liked to live life exactly as he pleased. Even his brief battle with cancer, was not enough to keep him from doing what he wanted, all the way to the very end. Joe's gregarious personality will be missed by his family, friends and the Red Hill community. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Leroy and his sisters Gloria and Patsy. He is survived by his wife Loretta, his children Joe (Bonnie), Lisa (Frank) and Cheryl (Mark), and 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Spencer, Natalie, Christy, Tiffany and Scotty. A memorial service will be held at Stone Funeral Home in Upland on March 29 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the VNA Hospice of Southern California at 150 West First Street, Suite 270, Claremont, CA 91711 or www.vnasocal.org.
