Marion June Bays was called home by the Lord on January 4, 2022. She was 93 years old. She was born August 16, 1928, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Her family later moved to Holiday, Texas where she spent most of her childhood and met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Ward Douglas Bays. When Ward returned from serving in the Army in World War II, they married on October 30, 1946, and began their incredible journey together. Ward soon thereafter went to work with Shell Oil Company, and Ward and Marion literally moved all over Texas (with a few stops in Louisiana) during his 40-year career at Shell.
Marion was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother who valued faith, family, and friends above all else. She was committed to showing agape love to everyone she met, saw the good in other people and lead an intentionally joyful life which was contagious among those who spent time with her. Her sons always understood and appreciated how truly blessed they were to have Marion and Ward as parents. Marion also developed an avid interest in nutrition, and her dedication to healthy living was an inspiration to those around her.
She served as a Sunday School teacher, Church Secretary, and valued member of a number of churches over the years. While she held many jobs, her work at health food stores and as an activity director at a senior living facility were the most rewarding.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Johnson and stepfather, Vance Johnson, husband, Ward Bays, son, Ronnie Bays and sister, Lois Nadine Bays. She is survived by sons Michael Bays (Barbara) and Rick Bays (Jan); grandsons Travis Bays (Jill), Scott Bays, David Bays, Brett Bays and Richard Bays (Jenny); granddaughters, Beth Wade (Corey) and Christine Pawlik (Jacob); and great-grandchildren Meagan Wade, Ethan Bays, Olivia Bays, and Ryan Bays.
The family will celebrate her going home on April 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay St., Houston, TX 77024. In lieu of flowers, the family would like expressions of sympathy to be made by donation to Chapelwood United Methodist Church, Houston, Texas.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stonefuneralhomeupland.com for the Bays family.
