Rev. Joseph Warren Smith

Rev. Joseph Warren Smith, age 85, of Rutherford College, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 29, 2012 while in the care of Burke Hospice. Rev. Smith was the son of the late Otto A. Smith and Olive Smith, born on March 1, 1927 in Sciotoville, OH. He was a member of Rock Chapel Church of God in Granite Falls, and had served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Rev. Smith followed God’s call as pastor and interim pastor of several churches over his 60 years in the ministry. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Along with his parents, Rev. Smith is preceded in death by a son, Bruce Smith.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Wanda Smith of the home; two sons, Paul Smith of Missoula, MT, and Peter Smith and his wife, Cherie of Houston, TX; 2 step-sons, Rick Midkiff of Toledo, OH, and Tim Midkiff of Rutherford College; two daughters, Rebecca Witker and her husband, James of Toledo, OH, and Amy Barnhart and her husband, Michael of Houston, TX; two step-daughters, Cheryl Miller and her husband, Brian, and Brenda Sherrick, all of Toledo, OH; and a daughter-in-law, Jeni Smith of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services with Military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Rock Chapel Church of God with Rev. Nathan Leasure and Rev. Ron Leasure officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
