

Mr. Lawrence Ray Effler, age 71, of Glen Alpine, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 30, 2015 at his residence. Lawrence was born the son of the late Cecil Effler and Linnie Grindstaff Effler on April 17, 1944 in Yancey County.
Lawrence was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, and was a retired meat-cutter with 46 years experience. He enjoyed woodwork, gardening, fishing, taking trips to the beach and spending time with his family. Lawrence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by three brothers, Dean, MacArthur and Roy Lee Effler; a sister, Betty Thompson; and two grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 19 years, Kay Effler of the home; two sons, Jason Effler and his wife, Ann of Morganton and Billy Barrier of Asheville; two daughters, Samantha Parrow and her husband, Louis of Marion and Miranda Beaver of Morganton; five sisters, Carol Allen and her husband, Milton of Greer, SC, Louise Orr and her husband, George of Marion, Nelma Justice and her husband, Dolph of Marion, Sue Carnes and her husband, Marvin of Greer, SC and Marilyn Riddle of Marion; eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and members of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church Family.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 3640 Bailey Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. The Rev. Terry Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
