Mabel Irene Smith

Mrs. Mabel Irene Smith, 76, of Hudson, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 17, 2011, while at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 17, 1935, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Colen Powell and Sarah Pritchard Powell. She attended the Calvary Free Will Baptist Church, Valdese.

She will loving be remembered by four sons, Carl, Curtis, Sam and Cecil Moody, all of Morganton;

two daughters, Vanessa Shatley, of Hudson and Edna Michaels, of Morganton;

a brother, Robert Powell, of Lenoir;

four sisters, Darlene Williams, of Lenoir, Jean Dellinger, of Hudson, Martha Whisnant, of Valdese and Gillie Bell, of Drexel;

she will also be remembered by fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Drexel Memorial Park with the Reverend Leonard Lindsay officiating. The family will receive friends 1:30 PM – 2 PM, prior to the service at the Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
