Mary Elizabeth Bernard

Mary Elizabeth Schuler Bernard, 49, of Morganton, NC died Friday August 24, 2012 at Burke Hospice in Valdese, after battling cancer for 2 years. She was born August 23, 1963 to John & Rose Schuler who preceded her in death.

Prior to her illness, Mary worked for Burke County Planning and Zoning Department. Mary enjoyed gardening, painting, baking, crocheting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed going to and participating in craft fairs.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Bernard of the home;

Daughters, Becky Thompson and husband Mark of Hickory, Katrina Blumetti and husband Joe of Morganton, and Kelly Goforth of Morganton;

Sons, Nicholas and Joseph Bernard of the home; grandchildren, Anthony, Elijah & Lily; Foster brother and sister John Colgan, and Trish Parker;

Her beloved cousin Chris Bernard; and Tyler Griffin of the home.

Mary was very special to many people; she was her daughter Kelly’s best friend, a loving “nene” and a great support to many others.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 27th at Valdese Family Funeral Home between the hours of 6-9 pm and funeral will be Tuesday, August 28th at 10:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Morganton.
