

Chief Bill Williams – Talάlsamkin-t Siyάm

It is with deep sadness that we advise the passing of our dear Chief Bill Williams, on September 28, 2025, at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. Bill was born to his loving parents Chief David Williams and Laura (nee Collinson) on February 2, 1950 at Naniamo, BC. Bill grew up in Eslha7άn, (Mission Indian Reserve No. 1) North Vancouver, Yekw’apsem (Yeakwapsem IR No. 18) and Siyi7ch’em (Seaichem IR No. 16) in Squamish. Bill attended Brakendale Elementary School, Howe Sound Secondary, Langara College for Leadership in Recreation and BCIT where he received his Business Administration and Marketing Diploma. In 1995, Talάsamkin Siyάm, was stood up to represent his family as a Hereditary Chief of the Squamish Nation – one of the sixteen. Bill was the manager at Mosquito Creek Marina, Elected Band Manager, and Elected Councillor (Chair and Co-Chair), Lead Negotiator for Skwxwu7mesh Rights and Title Intergovernmental Relations Natural Resources & Revenue all of which involved many initiatives over many years. Bill was well known not only in BC, but also across Canada and internationally in political arenas.
Bill will best be remembered for his involvement in community. In his younger years he played and coached soccer and later was involved with the Canoe Family and participated in many tribal journeys both in BC and in Washington State. Bill was an avid member of the Squamish Nation Shaker Church and proud of his teachings from his late father who stressed the importance of taking care of families during loss and was known to attend each-and-every funeral and would witness until all work was complete. As hereditary Chief, Bill was deeply committed to leading and teaching his knowledge of our traditional lands of culture, and for the protection and preservation of our traditions and rights.
Bill was deeply commitment to family and community and the preservation of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw traditions, culture, and law.
Bill deeply loved and nurtured his boys and will be dearly missed by his dear sons Christopher Lee Joseph Williams and Marc Vincent Joseph Williams; brothers & sisters Henry David George Williams (Jackie), Darleen Patricia Lebel (Ray), Alexander Williams, Mara L R Williams, Susie Lewis, Charles Wayne Natrall and Alan Lawrence Natrall.
