Russ loved God's creatures, great and small. On one of our early dates, Russ introduced me to his feather friends at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. This eventually led him to gifting me Jaba, the budgie, who lived 6 years. When Jaba passed, a stray cat suddenly arrived and discovered he was king in our house for 10 years. Then Russ finally convinced me into getting a dog, and we found a sweet golden retriever puppy who simply became Russ's best furry friend.  He and his dear friends must be all dancing around in heaven now.

For over 20 years, Russ walked along Spanish Banks every morning, with the exception of a few sick days. In his last year, he rested at this bench and appreciated the beauty of every day in his life as the rest of the dog walkers continued along.  Thank you to his dogwalking friends for the plaque. A very kind gesture and tribute.

Russ was the best landlord of all times. He was very kind and thoughtful. Please accept our condolences. May Russ rest in peace.

I took this photo  of the dahlia while chatting with Russ, admiring his flowers in late August 2021 in the United Church garden.  He was so proud of this dahlia specifically, and had every right to be.  His memory will live on through the garden  for me and many others who live in the neighbourhood as we enjoy looking at gardens while walking in the neighbourhood. Thank you Russ for making this world a better place.

During the twenty-odd years that I and my family attended West Point Grey United Church before moving to Victoria, Russ was one of the pillars of the church, and I was deeply saddened to read of his passing, and offer our profound condolences to his family. Endlessly capable, strong, kind, helpful and humorous, usually in white shirt and blue jeans, Russ' bespectacled grin in a corner of the church or hall was a guarantee that all had been arranged impeccably and any event would go well. We shared a love of golden retrievers, and an enthusiasm for dahlias - I wonder if any of the varieties I shared with him are still in the church garden? Everyone should have a Russ in their lives, and those of us who knew him will be forever grateful that he shared ours, and remember him with love. 

It was a truly sad day when we learned at West Point Grey United Church, that Russ had passed away. We shall forever remember his kindnesses, patience, perseverance, humour, work ethic, and compassion for others. He was one of a kind and certainly cannot be replaced! He was a remarkable Hero in every sense of the word. We share with Gloria and his larger family our sincere and deepest condolences for a genuine loving  person - a model for each of us.

Over a full 25 years or more Russ has been a central presence at West Point Grey United Church.  He and Janis new it and many of us very well and he was always ready with a kind and helping word and hand be it for the church itself or someone who sought his assistance.  He delivered and helped me spread soil on the front yard insisting it was a two person job!  He made every event at WPGU smoother and better organized, picking up the "loose ends."  We will miss him when we pass by and see his artistic flower design.    We treasure his memory.  We extend sympathy to Gloria and his wider family and friends too.  Thanks be for folk like Russ.

To Gloria, Summer and family:
Russ and Janis were the first two friends after my husband Charles and I landed in Vancouver. He invited us to his home which has a stunning view, and we met Gloria and Mardi. Then, we had a long term friendship with many laughters and joyful moments. Russ was always willing to help people for their gardens, holiday decorations, moving.... His kindness to people and animals is always warm our hearts. He will be dearly missed. Sending you my  sincerest condolences.

I have so many fond and funny memories of Russ over the years.  He always had an interesting story to tell, and a zest for adventure.  Russ was a gentle soul with so much artistic talent, especially in gardening and his artwork.   He will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. I have a great respect for Russ and deeply appreciated all he has done for West Point Grey United Church.  He will be greatly missed and no one else can ever replace him. Russ was a constant, kind, friendly, helpful, hard-working presence at West Point Grey United Church for years and years and years. It's inconceivable to imagine he will not be there. He will be missed so dearly and so deeply by all who knew him. We will remember his smile and laugh most of all. Our most sincere sympathies to his loved ones. 

To Gloria and Family,
My sincerest condolence to you at this sad time.  We remember many great get togethers when Graham and Ellen were in town. 
Great food, great conversation and I remember camping trips to Saltspring Island many years ago. Bruce was a wonderful man, so talented artistically. May he be at peace.

Sailing the Adriatic off the coast of Croatia with Russ and Gloria. Russ was in his element when he took the helm. Great memories of fun times on and around the little islands of Croatia. I will forever remember Russ' laugh, which he did often and easily. Rest in peace Russ.

Our trip to Newfoundland with Russ and Gloria was fantastic. Even though Russ was not feeling well he enjoyed every aspect of it that he could. When he saw the sunny deck with Adirondack chairs in Twillingate he said he just wanted to enjoy the view and look at the ocean. We will miss him more than words can say. Our memories of our years together will soothe the soul. With love and peace dear friend. Graham and Ellen Hardy 

Russ had a good laugh when he was enjoying this beer at one of our many stops in Newfoundland but I think this was Trout River in the Gros Morne area. So happy we created many memories over the years but the last ones will stick with us. Love Graham and Ellen

My favorite memories were of the walks at low tide in the summer time with Russ & Summer.  Very special times and far better than the regular nasty, rainy, windy mornings that we barely endured.  We miss you Russ!  Thanks for your friendship.
