Tam Choi Kam (née Kwok) was born on November 24, 1931, in Gung Fa Village, Zhongshan. As a child, she was adopted by relatives in Pak Miu Village and renamed Tam Choi Kam. Though her formal education ended in primary school, she worked hard to support her family from an early age.
At sixteen, she married Mr. Jang Ging Hin and had two children. Her husband emigrated to Canada before their daughter’s birth, leaving her to raise the family and care for her mother-in-law alone. Life was difficult, but she faced every challenge with courage and optimism.
In 1962, she moved to Macau, working tirelessly to support her children and even becoming a property owner twice. In 1981, she immigrated to Canada to reunite with her family. There she continued learning English, practiced Tai Chi daily, and helped found the MaClean Park Tai Chi Group. She was also a devoted community volunteer.
Grandma Tam lived with grace, strength, and generosity, loved by all who knew her. She passed away peacefully at 97, surrounded by four generations of family. Her kindness and spirit will be forever remembered.
