It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Clyde ‘Chico’ Francis Johnston. Clyde was born to his mother Ferne (nee Reeve) and father Billy Johnston on November 1, 1959 and following a long battle with cancer Chico passed away peacefully at the Kamloops Hospice Association on September 27, 2017. Chico grew up on Capilano IR No. 5, Mission IR No. 1 and Lynn Valley in North Vancouver. He attended Westview Elementary and Sutherland Senior Secondary Schools in North Vancouver until he left to Prince George where he also attended to his schooling. As a young man Chico boxed, bronco rode bulls and horses and was well known for his motor bikes. His attire reflected these from the cowboy hat, leather jackets, jeans and cowboy boots and brilliant personality and smile. Clyde worked 20+ years for Squamish Nation’s Mosquito Creek Marina until he moved to 70 Mile House where he worked for Interior Roads as a Ferrier at Big Bar. His favourite pass time was spent hunting and fishing and he was a great outdoorsman. His greatest legacy is 19 years of sobriety and the many times he roamed the streets of Vancouver to witness to kids in efforts to get them off the streets.
Chico is survived by and will be dearly missed by his loving daughter Jolene (Sean); grandchildren Viola, Landon, Vyliscia and Pretorian; special friends Katie August & Iris Robinson; brothers Lane & George; and sister Angela Raglan (Al); special mom auntie Rose Johnston; nieces & nephews Elizabeth, Kyler, Holli, Tyler; special brothers Tony & Manuel Guerrero and Mike Nahanee; and godmother Yvonne Sam.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday October 1; and a funeral service at 10:00 am on Monday October 2 will be held both at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC. Online condolences may be sent to www.glenhavenmemorialchapel.com
