It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Constantine (Κωνσταντίνος) Falias, affectionately known as Kosta or Gus, on February 16, 2025. Kosta was born to Theodoros Falias and Athena (Voutsela) Falia on February 10, 1946 in Athens, Greece. He was baptised at the Holy Church of Saint Charalampos in Pedion tou Areos park. His love of family and social nature was nurtured early in the village of Palaiochori, Meteoron, Trikalon, Thessalias, where he spent many enjoyable summers with his large extended family and fellow villagers. These close relationships were maintained throughout his life. It was during this time that his lifelong love and support of the Panathinaikos Athletic Club began.
Following his mischievous youth, he joined the merchant marines and travelled to over 50 countries before docking in Vancouver in 1965 where he would spend most of his life. He spent a brief period in New York, where he owned his first of many restaurants. Upon his return to Canada he continued his career as a restauranteur. He then travelled to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he met the love of his life, his wife of over 50 years, Bernadette. Together they returned to Vancouver, brought his parents from Greece and raised their three children Athena Cécile, Constandina Bernadette and Theodore Daniel. They were further blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Joanna Margaret Getty and Eleftheria Emma Kinfe Falia as well as step-grandchildren Matthew (Rachel) and Ashleigh Getty.
Kosta was proud of his Citizenships, both Greek and Canadian. He cherished the relationships he made in the restaurant industry, Canadian Order of Ahepa, Freemasons, Artemis Canadian Hellenic Rod & Gun Club, Hellenic communities, associations and organizations.
There was always a place at his table, whether for a Greek sailor far from home or those without family during the holidays. At any gathering he never missed an opportunity to educate those in his company of the far reaching Greek influence on the modern world. He cherished the time spent with his pareia when enjoying a meal or a coffee.
Καλό του ταξίδι και ας είναι ελαφρύ το χώμα που θα τον σκεπάσει. Θα τον θυμόμαστε πάντα με αγάπη.
