I met Craig, aka Mac, in 1999 outside of the Palladium. I lived in Bellingham at the time and decided last minute to drive to Vancouver to see Wilco play in Vancouver. I didn't have a ticket but when I arrived at the venue, I found Wilco doing their soundcheck. So I watched through an open door until a guy asked me what I needed.

That guy turned out to be Mac Pontiac, who the promoter had asked to open for Wilco after the opening band got stopped at the border. When I told him I needed a ticket, he said he thought the show was sold out but I could be his "roadie" for the night. 

My roadie duties consisted of carrying his guitar through the door, which netted me a free ticket. For the next 12 hours or so, I hung out with Mac, his bandmates, the promoter, and ... Wilco. Well, all of Wilco except Jeff Tweedy. At one point, I had both Mac and Leroy Bach (of Wilco) in my tiny Honda Civic, rolling to one of multiple post-show destinations that night.

For a few hours before the show, it was just Mac and me. Even 25 years removed, I remember him as a kind, entertaining, and creative guy, the kind of person I wish I had more of in my life.

When I left the next morning, Mac gave me a demo CD of Girlfriend Town I still own and enjoy. Sadly, I moved out of the PNW a couple of weeks later and never had a chance to hang out with Mac again. But that night was one I will never forget. 

I know this condolence is 8 years late, but is it ever too late to say goodbye? Hopefully not.

Wow. Such a shining light, creative genius, singer songwriter. He taught me how to play guitar and write songs, he even wrote one for me. I just found out; my heart is broken.

I only saw Craig perform a couple of times but he really made an impression on me. Losing him is a huge loss to the city...

Craig, we just found out today about your passing........Glenn and I enjoyed your company, friendship and view on life.  You touched a lot of people and we are two that will really miss you.

Craig I'm so sorry I missed your service today , I just found out . It was a pleasure to have known you and been your friend . I will miss you Buddy !

I met Craig when he became our neighbour on Wall Street. I am very saddened to hear of his sudden passing. My sincere condolences to the family.

Rest in Peace Craig. You'll always that "Tall good-looking guy" to me

I have a hunch he didn't have a clue as to how many people deeply loved, respected and admired him.
