Darlene was born on August 8, 1959 in Vancouver and was the second daughter of Reinhardt and Tina Wesner. She had a wonderful childhood, which included a younger sister and brother.
At the very young age of 15, Darlene was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. It is at that time that Darlene accepted the Lord and had total peace that if God saw fit to take her home she was ready. But God saw different. He let her live and at 16 she met Ron. Ron gave her a reason to live because of the beautiful things of creation Ron would walk her through. They one thing they continued throughout their many years of marriage, was walking through parks and having periods of rest if it was too long of a way for Darlene.
At 18, the Hodgkins reoccurred and things looked bleak, but again, God healed her.
On July 26, 1979 at the age of 19, Darlene married Ron Halliday.
Darlene had some tumultuous years after that and lived a lifestyle that was very unhealthy for her. The more she was spoken to and prayed for, the more it seemed to bring her deeper into it.
In 1998 Darlene was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy. No treatments were needed after the surgery but she was warned that the possibility of having a second mastectomy was very likely, but it never became an issue. A few years after that Darlene was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a disease that affects the lungs because of a lifestyle that consists of smoking and abuse of inhaling drugs.
In 2009 she was diagnosed with 40% lung capacity and was encouraged to quit smoking or she would die with this disease. But even so, she continued and soon her health began to fail.
Two years ago, the hospital stays began and she was put on life support on 11 different occasions. It was later told to us that 33% of people who go on life support do not survive, but yet God had plans for her. It is during this time that God began speaking to her and it was shortly before her dear mom passed away in August of last year, that she slowly began her way back to the Lord. She began reading her Bible, reading Christian literature and watching Christian programs on TV. Mom and Dad had given her a small cd/cassette/radio system for her birthday and she was given many CD’s with worship songs and hymns which she would listen to all day long as well as listening to the Christian radio station. She also listened to audio Bible CD’s provided by Evelyn. It was during this time that she rededicated her life to the Lord.
On December 14th, 2013 she was hospitalized for the final time. She was released twice just for one day each and was again rushed back to the hospital. During this time she was on life support on three different occasions and yet she held on. We all knew that this time was different than the other times. This time she would not leave the hospital. The vigil began. With every gasp for air, it brought her closer to her Heavenly home and on Sunday, February 16, at about 4:00 pm, her fight ended. She so much wanted to leave this earth of suffering and see Jesus face to face and God answered her prayer on that day.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Ron, her father Reinhardt, her sisters Lydia (Erwin), Evelyn (Andre), Vicky (Carlos), Sheri (Joe), Janet (Randy), Kathy (Bob),and Linda; her brothers Ed (Angel), Donald (Carol), and Sonny (Maggie), her mother-in-law Margret Armstrong, and Ron’s stepbrother David and stepsister Wendy.
Thank you sincerely for sharing in our sorrow.
Your thoughtfulness and prayers are appreciated and will always be remembered.
