Dave was predeceased by his parents Gladys and John Butler, brothers Jack and Harold, and sisters Thelma Hanna and Jean Brotherston.
He is survived by Blanche, his wife of 68 years and sons David (Heather) in Osoyoos, Doug (Sylvie) in Vancouver, Mark (Ingeborg) in Weiden, Germany, and beloved grandchildren Cameron, Linzy, Mona, Natalie, Laureen and Justin.
Dave was born in Summerland, BC, but the family moved to Victoria where he spent his early years. They moved to Vancouver where Dave graduated from King Edward High School. He then attended U.B.C. graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Biology. He then took the teacher training program and spent many years teaching high school science. He went on to work at B.C.I.T. retiring from there in 1987.
After retiring he enjoyed many games of golf, his favorite sport. He spent time at Pinantan Lake where they had a cabin on the lake and was always busy looking after rental properties they had bought.
