

POTIS, DAWNE MARIE (nee Sands)July 6, 1943 January 4, 2011 Dawne Marie Potis passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on January 4th, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Nick, son, Rod, daughter, Sandi (Donn), brother, Ken (Sue) Sands, Denver, Mackenzy and her most precious joys, her grandchildren Tye and Maia. Also, mourning her loss is her mother-in-law, Gladys Potis, sister-in-laws Carolyn and Marinna (John), nephews Wayne (Allison), David and Chris, nieces, Kathy, Gina, Tina and Nicole. Dawne lived most of her life in Vancouver. She married Nick in 1967 and they had two children. Her life revolved around her family and her community. She will be remembered for her love of motherhood, commitment and dedication to her loved ones, sense of humour, and happy disposition. As her children began to get involved in soccer so did she. She put close to 4 decades towards developing girls soccer in the Lower Mainland. Being involved with Kerrisdale Soccer Club, Vancouver Girls Soccer and was on the board for the Metro Girls Soccer League for many years. She spent countless hours managing Provincial Girls Soccer teams and later, her daughters Metro Womens team. As her children neared graduation Dawne was offered a position to coordinate the Vancouver Sun Run. This opportunity quickly turned from a job to a love and passion. For 21 years, she helped the run grow from a few thousand runners to over 55,000. In May, 2010 she retired to spend more time with her grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the nurses in the ICU of Vancouver General Hospital for the exceptional care given to her and the compassion shown to her family. Also, we would like to thank our neighbourhood family, soccer family and Sun Run family for the tremendous support they have given us. A celebration of Dawnes life will be held on Friday, January 14th at 1:00 pm in Ryerson United Church at 2195 West 45th Ave, Vancouver, B.C. Reception to follow.
