Peggy and I were so deeply saddened to hear this news. My sister Greer met Andre in Montreal when they were both children and they became fast friends. Throughout her life he was a constant and supportive presence for her and at her death almost a year to the day before his own he provided me with such comforting words and perspective. I remember visiting him and Bev at their apartment on Pine Avenue in the 90s and being struck both by their generous welcome and by the way they knew how to live a happy and meaningful life. Peggy met Andre through the Greek/Hellenic studies community and was struck by the depth and acuity of his scholarship and was also grateful for his collaborative nature and friendship.

Our thoughts are with Beverley and with the entire Simon Fraser community at this time. It was an honour to know Andre. He will truly be missed by all the people he touched with his mind and with his kindness.

What an amazing man, what a great loss!! This is clearly devastating news for Hellenic Studies and the community of military historians.  But I will mostly miss his friendship, his great sense of humor, and his eternal optimism. Very few people can combine idealism, pragmatism, and a genuine joy in living the way Andre and Beverley have.  
To Beverley and his family, I am more sorry than words can possibly express for this heart- breaking loss.

Andre had such a passion for Greece and I shall always remember accompanying him to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation conference in Athens. It was at conferences and gatherings that Andre truly shined and his amazing network was highlighted. Andre's ability to bring people together and see projects materialize was truly special. From building Hellenic Studies at SFU from the ground up to his many books and other successful projects, Andre was remarkable. He will truly be missed.

Andre Gerolymatos was a fine historian with a comprehensive knowledge of the literature of twentieth-century intelligence, counterintelligence, and special operations, who inspired me to become an intelligence historian late in life and showed me how history should be written ... the right way. I shall always treasure Andre's writings, his lively wit, and his thoughtful perceptions of the past and present. My deepest sympathy is extended to Beverley at this time. Rest in peace, Andre.

Andre Gerolymatos' passing was untimely and this renders his loss even greater. A great loss for his wife Beverly and the rest of his family, his friends and colleagues. His loss has been felt far beyond Vancouver, especially among the Greek Canadian and Greek American community and in Greece as well. I knew Andre for over twenty-five years and witnessed his path to excellence. He was a pioneer and towering figure in advancing Greek Studies and promoting Greek culture and letters, the Greek language especially. He did so through the Hellenic Studies program he founded at Simon Fraser University and as the brilliant Director of the Niarchos Center for Hellenic Studies. Thanks to the utilization of new technologies, he promoted the learning of the Greek language spanning continents and reaching China where thousands of Chinese students are taught Greek online. Above all, Andre was a prominent historian and author with international reputation. He possessed the uncanny ability to write comfortably and authoritatively for both ancient and contemporary Greece. At the same time, with the same comfort and authority, he would write about the Balkans, the Easter Mediterranean and the Middle East like few academics could do.  Above all, Andre was a wonderful human being. Despite his fame, he remained simple and unassuming radiating generosity and kindness. I consider myself fortunate that our paths crossed and privileged to have him as a friend. I extend my deepest sympathy to  his wife Beverly,  the rest of his family, and to all those who came to know Andre and were touched by his spirit. 

Andre was always a great friend of the Sir Winston Churchill Society of British Columbia.  He addressed the members of the Society on several occasions including the Annual Banquet in 2016.  I and our members will miss his keen intellect and warm demeanour.  Andre will always be appreciated for all he did and his great friendship.

I admired Andre's historical books long before I met him. When I visited him and his colleagues at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser several years past, I found a man of quiet authority  and great ability but with an attitude that said to all  'you are my friends in our scholarly endeavours.'  He dressed casually and I loved his family dog running around the offices. Andre collaborated on my bucket list radio documentary . I listened to his voice again today. I am sorry he is not with us to continue the planned extension but I intend to play some of his comments at forthcoming public presentations in Australia. He lives on in his books, former students, colleagues and anyone who reads to understand more about modern Greece in the modern world. 

I send my sincere condolences from Australia  to his wife Beverley and family.
