

Professor Andre Gerolymatos passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his beloved wife Beverley on May 30th 2019. Dr. Gerolymatos is predeceased by his parents Maria and Sotirios and his sister Areti Kearns mother of Alexander and Annabel. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Greece and Canada will keep him in their memories.
Andre left us too soon. His accomplishments will endure in the academic realms of Hellenic Studies, Military and Diplomatic History. His numerous books and articles will further keep his memory alive.
Professor Gerolymatos has received many awards and honours in his teaching career which include running with the Olympic Flame Vancouver( 2010), The Order of Phoenix-Hellenic Republic( 2011), and the HRH Queen Elizabeth the second Diamond Jubilee Medal for Service to Canada (2012) and the Simon Fraser University honour for his services through engagement with the media (2012).
His most gratifying moments include his relationship with Andreas Dracopoulos, Co-President and Director of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation whos generosity made possible the realization of the largest Hellenic Studies Centre world-wide to be located at Simon Fraser University. Andre also treasured his relationship with Antonis Diamataris, publisher of the National Herald. Decades of Sunday afternoons were spent by Andre writing his articles for this legendary Greek American newspaper.
God Bless all those who helped Andre in particular his mother-in-law Joyce MacMaster, and Dr. Angela Hutchinson who guided Andre through his final journey.
Prayers will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 7:00 pm at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus St. Vancouver, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 6th at 11:00 am. Father Constantinos Economos officiating. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby.
