Born July 13, 1959 to John and Mary (Tannar) Slivorski, She graduated from David Thompson Secondary School in 1977 and completed her CDA certification in 1979. She married her childhood sweetheart Dave Lester in 1979. They were together 12 years, moving first to Richmond where they had a daughter Jennifer in 1983 and then settling in Coquitlam in 1987. In 1992 Elaine met her life partner and soulmate John (Jack) Barnes. With Jack, her family immediately expanded to include 3 more children Jillian, Dawson and Caitlin. In 1994 Jillian moved to live with her Father.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 26 years, John (Jack) Barnes; her daughter Jennifer Wilks (Kerry) grandson Kasen; her stepson Dawson Barnes (Alicia) granddaughter Abigail; her stepdaughter Caitlin Weller (Luke) granddaughter Tahnee and grandsons Lauchlan and Cooper; and by her brother Dave Slivorski (Carol) nephew Mike Slivorski (Katie + John, Andrea and Grant) and niece Kristen Slivorski. Elaine was predeceased by her first husband Dave Lester (2002), her Sister Ronie and Brother-in-law Arnie Gunther (2004), her Father John Slivorski (2013), and her Mother Mary Slivorski (2014).
Elaine was loved by all that met her and had the privilege of getting to know her. She had a gentle nature, a warm heart and a loving hand which seemed to create a calming sense in others around her.
Except for the years off to raise the children during grade school, Elaine worked her entire career in the dental profession. She enjoyed every day and only reluctantly retired when she found it physically unbearable to continue. During that time, she formed close life long bonds with many colleagues and patients alike. She felt an immense pride and pleasure helping care for the people in her life.
Elaine had a fun loving sense of adventure and enjoyed countless excursions to the far corners of the world - expanding her seemingly endless Starbuck mug collection as she went. She was a wonderful person to travel with and could always smooth out and find humour in the bumps and curves occurring along lifes’ journey. Elaine enjoyed her summers on the boat...The peace and quiet was her sanctuary. Elaine loved her winter home in Indio, California where she tended to her garden and was endeared by many close friends.
While Elaine loved her life and all the wonders within it, mostly Elaine loved being a Gramma. Kasen (2007) (Jennifer and Kerry Wilks). Tahnee (2012), Lauchlan (2014), Cooper (2017) (Caitlin and Luke Weller) and Abigail (2017) (Dawson and Alicia Barnes). She was so thrilled with each arrival and so full of love for those little faces. They all loved Gramma and all have a very special place in Grammas heart. Sitting quietly with the ones she loved and who loved her, surrounded by her Grandchildren, was truly her happy place.
We miss you so much Gramma. XO

She said it all so softly,
She needed to be done.
She asked us all to help her,
Finish what she’d begun.
We all still have the photos,
Our memories and our thoughts.
Elaine can now rest comfortably,
Cuz we hold her in our hearts.
