Mom was born on Jan. 20, 1927. From the age of 7, she took piano lessons. Despite a 20-year disruption of her lessons and exams precipitated by WWII, she resumed lessons and completed exams in the Royal Conservatory of Music program from Toronto and taught piano for many years. She was a talented pianist who could play a song after hearing it only a few times. She accompanied many singers at concerts and weddings and also played the piano at funerals.
During the war, Mom’s family was relocated to Sandon, New Denver, Roseberry, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and lastly, Kamloops. She taught Sunday School and Elementary School during that time. Mom met Dad in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. They married in 1950 after they moved back to Vancouver.
From 1968 to 1982, they owned and operated Scotty’s Fish Market on Commercial Drive, off Broadway. They sold the store and Mom retired at age 54 because she had breast cancer.
Mom loved travelling and made many trips to Reno, Hawaii, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Disneyland and Japan. Her favourite outing was to the Grand Villa Casino to play the slot machines, have lunch and chat with the many friends she made among the staff.
Mom was a strong, resilient and hard-working person. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her cheerfulness, friendliness and generosity. She will be in our hearts forever.
