We had the pleasure of getting to know Felix as a Coach, a husband, a father, a son, but more importantly as a friend. To his wife Em, his children Izaac, Izabelle, Joseph, his Mom Evelyn and his countless family and friends may you hold all your precious memories of the time you spent with Felix close to your hearts.  We will always have wonderful memories of countless basketball practices, games, and tournaments but most importantly all the countless get gatherings that Felix put together!

My Dad quotes, “Felix was a loving father for his family, and a great guy. One thing that I remember and miss from him is that we played basketball once when I came to Canada. I could see that the basketball spirit of his was really good.”

According to one of my brothers growing up as a child, Uncle Felix was one of the few individuals to spark, “A ball is life” mentality with him. As an inspiring figure to not only to his family he was inspiring toward his pupils from the teams he coached and the basketball community. My brother also quotes, “He was a great uncle to me and will never forget the interactions we had during our family gatherings. Love and will miss you Unc you will be missed.”

On behalf of my family and myself, we are all thinking of the Gonzalez family and Uncle Felix, praying for healing, strength and comfort. 

May Ninong Felix rest well in peace and in power. ❤️

Part 1 of 2

My siblings and I saw my Uncle/Ninong Felix as this really humble, nice, calm, supportive individual and we are grateful to have had the chance to meet him. 

My Mom knows it has been 8 years since we last spoke with him, but she also knew my Uncle Felix since he was an infant as well as having the opportunity to help raise and watch him grow up over the years. 

My Mom would share stories (especially the funny ones) that took place back home (Philippines) and the lives here in Canada by her own experiences raising him and his siblings, and through photos in our photo albums and scrapbooks. That kind of bond made me feel closer to our family and to get to know him better. It made me understand how basketball meant so much for him, and why he was so passionate about the sport.  

Uncle Felix got into basketball with the guidance of his Dad (my Grandpa), and he was able to pass it along to a various age groups who are eager to learn. He has been incredibly generous enough to give his time to teach the sport to his children and the basketball community as both a coach and referee after participating in numerous games himself as a team player in his younger years.

Coach Felix truly made me love the game of basketball with all the grit, passion, patience and heart that he always carried with him. Thank you coach for mentoring me and motivating me to be a better player each and everyday, on or off the court. The only coach who would buy his team timmies before a game and possibly McDonald’s after a game. The Datayan family played a major part in my teenage years all through high school basketball and I will cherish them forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you Izabelle, Jo, Izaac and Tita during this time and sending you all the love and light.  Coach Felix will always be remembered and his impact will last on those who he inspired in some way shape or form, forever. May he rest in paradise 🤍  

Growing up Uncle G always welcomed me and my family so warmly. I'm so lucky to have known him and his whole family. He was always such a jokester but always there to comfort us whenever we needed anything. His presence will be missed but never forgotten. Sending my deepest condolences and support during this hard time. 

The only time I saw Felix mad was during a game we were reffing at a summer camp many years ago.  He and our third ref had locked horns and neither one was giving an inch.  After that very tense game, and getting chewed out by our evaluator, Mike Thomson, we were sitting in the locker room and he was still fuming.  The cookie cutter advice I gave him was to think happy thoughts.  Within seconds, a smile came across his face, so I asked him what he was thinking about.  He said that his daughter's killer cross over was really coming around, and in the time of Allen Iverson, it was all about the cross over.   I was always amazed that one simple thought could snap him right out of his funk.  He was one proud papa.

The basketball fraternity lost a good one in Felix.  Healing hugs to his family from all of us at Yale basketball.  He will not be forgotten.  God Bless.

Felix Gonzalez

It is with great regret to inform his family and friends about his sudden passing on February 22, 2021 at 7:00pm. He has gone to be with Jesus, his Lord and Saviour.

He was a great man, and it is such an honour and a great blessing to know him and be with this wonderful father, friend, partner and confidant in his short time here on Earth. He has touched so many lives in his 48 years of life.
DID YOU KNOW? He loved to give his anything and everything. No hesitation, no questions asked. He loved to cook, feed and entertain everyone. He loved to make people laugh. He loved to be outdoors and seize every moment and all the time in this world. He had always fully offered his time, passion and dedication into anything he was tasked to do. He would always give 100% and more if it were possible. He loved serving his family and others, and most importantly, our great God. 

Felix was full of life, full of passion, full of laughter, full of energy and full of love. He was a great GIVER and a great PROVIDER. 

A Child of God - He loved God with all his heart. He prayed every night and attended our church services when we were still able to go to church, Rock Generation. He fully and openly served God and volunteered in our church.

He still had many plans in an already fulfilled and happy life. He had reach his quota and he would still continue to break his quota in life if he were given more time. His mantra was Never Be Satisfied, Work Hard and Keep Reaching For The Stars.

I’ve always known Felix as a family man, he can be playing poker on one hand and yet holding baby Izaac on the other hand.  My most memorable time with Felix was when the whole family came with us for a camping trip in Hope! It rained and we got robbed by raccoons, but overall we had the best time! Thanks, Felix for all the times that you spent with us! Goodbye for now, Toto. RIP

December 1994 during my 18th birthday/cotillion - It was during this time was when I first met Felix. Thank you, Felix for being such a great sport in waking up so early on Saturdays just to practice the dance with us ❤️😍 🤗. We will never forget those times when we would run into you all in Seattle for the love of basketball 💕❤️

To some people Felix is known to be the coach, mentor or referee, however, for me I know him as a brother-in-law, a loving husband and a devoted father.  Felix was this quiet guy who sat somewhere in the corner to watch his basketball game on his phone and out of nowhere he will all of a sudden crack out this super funny joke that always made everyone laugh.   He will surely be missed .
Be at peace Felix., we will always be there for Em, Izabelle, Jospeh and Izaac.

Felix was such a kind soul. He was always so positive and upbeat and a joy to work with on the basketball court. One of the last games I might have worked with Felix was the finals of the 2016 Dolphin Park tournament. Felix was an excellent referee but an even more fantastic person and parent. My thoughts are with your entire family. Rest In Peace, Felix!
