It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of George Vastardis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margarita and his children, Mary (Anthony) and Joanna and his six grandchildren, Georgia, Jenna, Margarita, Demi, Dimitri and Lexi. George was born on the island of Andros, Greece in 1935. In 1963 he met his love, Margarita Kavouras, in Victoria. They married in 1964 and soon moved to Vancouver, where he began a successful business as a plumbing contractor. George and Margarita enjoyed a beautiful life together spanning 55 years. He was an active member of the Hellenic Community of Vancouver and maintained close ties with his childhood home in the village of Episkopeion, Korthi in Andros.
A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 7:00 pm and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:00 am, officiated by Father Odisseys Drossos, both at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street in Vancouver. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby.
