Gum Yee Tong

Mr. Gum Yee Tong was born in Yan Ping, Guangdong, China on November 20, 1947 and passed away peacefully in Vancouver, British Columbia on January 25, 2022 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his loving spouse, Yun Kam Tong, and children, Jennifer, Samantha and Michael, and grandchildren, Indy and Brynleigh and family. He immigrated from China through a family sponsorship at a very young age (12 yrs old) in 1959. He completed Highschool and worked in woodworking for a few years before landing a job as an estimator for a shipyard. He eventually opened up his own business with partners to build and repair boats under the name of Fraser Shipyard Ltd with the skills he had as Dockmaster/Shipwright. He retired in 2012 to enjoy time with the family. He always loved to travel together with family as family was his number one priority. He has traveled to China, Hong Kong, Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Las Vegas, Oregon and Hawaii. Los Angeles was his latest trip in 2019. He was talking about his next travel plans to go back to China when the pandemic was over. He was very generous and always willing to help family and friends. He took great care of his family. He will be sorely missed.

A visitation for Gum Yee will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 E Hastings St, Vancouver, British Columbia, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 10:00 am. Internment will follow at 12:00pm at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, British Columbia.
