Ida Filomena Pisani Gigliotti was born on July 11th, 1920, in Martirano, Italy. She was the youngest child of Carmela and Antonio Pisani. Ida grew up in Italy and married Giuseppe Gigliotti in 1941. In 1953, Ida and Giuseppe and their three young children (Tony, Elvira, and Frank) moved from Italy to Canada where they resided in Giscome, BC. Later, the family moved from Giscome to Vancouver where in 1959, their fourth child (Louise) was born. Ida and Giuseppe were married for 57 years until Giuseppe passed away in 1998.
Ida lived with passion and pride in all aspects of her life. She loved flowers and gardening and took pride in her vegetable garden, and in her cooking. She was a fan of all sports, but had a special passion for hockey. Canuck game days were very exciting at her house. She welcomed everyone to her home and her table was always full. Family was the most important thing to Ida and the source of her greatest pride.
Ida enjoyed walking everywhere: to the local market, to church, to Queen Elizabeth Park, and around the neighbourhood, chatting with neighbours and friends as she went. Everyone knew her simply as “Nonna.”
Ida was predeceased by her daughter Louise (1991), and her husband Giuseppe (1998). She leaves behind her children Tony, Elvira, and Frank, and their families, including 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and friends. Ida was a source of strength and wisdom for her family. She lived her life the way she wanted and was an inspiration to many. She will be greatly missed.
