Igino Tomei

It is with profound heartbreak we announce the passing of Igino Tomei on January 31, 2024 at the age of 82. Gino was the devoted husband of Alma for almost 57 years and was the loving father to their two children Diane and Brian. He adored his grandchildren Nathan and Olivia as well as his granddaughter Helena. He is also survived by brothers John, Nicola and Livio and sister Annamaria as well numerous relatives in many countries.

Gino was born and raised in Supino, Italy; emigrating to Vancouver, B.C. with his parents and siblings in 1958. Married in 1967 he and Alma built their home in 1974; he was so proud of that accomplishment. To Gino family was everything. He had a great sense of humour along with a dry wit. He will be remembered for his generosity and loyalty to friends.

His passion for gardening – especially the amazing tomatoes he cultivated, dining out every Saturday night with Alma, and his artistry and talent with ceramic tile and marble will long be remembered.

Gino had a long fight with various cancers since 1998 and for the last few years with Alzheimer’s disease as well. At his death he was in hospital where he had been since mid October of 2023.

There will not be a celebration nor a service at his wishes.
