FERETOS, Ioannis (John) Christos June 19, 1935 - December 9, 2011 It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our beloved Yianni. He will be sorely missed - but also remembered, as a friend to everyone he met. A loving husband to Effie and father to Vasso and son-in-Law John, a grandfather to Alexander and Micheal and brother to Eftihia Kakavas, Maria Mavreas and Petros Feretos. Tragically predeceased by his sons Christos Feretos (1983) and George Feretos (1977). Yianni emigrated to Montreal, Canada from Kalamata, Greece in 1960 where he met Effie, his to-be-wife of 46 years. Together, they moved to Vancouver where they forged lifelong friendships with whom they shared joys and sorrows His prized `green thumb' produced many a beautiful garden, year after year. John was proud to share a lively boast about it with neighbors, friends, and passersby. Yianni was a very popular and active member in the Greek Community: he presided on numerous boards and sang in the church choir. His unconditional love for his family, passion for life and thirst for learning will be unequivocally missed. Forever in our hearts and minds, his life shall be celebrated through the many fond memories we look forward to sharing. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 14th at 12:00 p.m. - both at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church located at 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver with Reverend Demetrios Partsafas officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Tributes and condolences maybe made by visiting www.mountpleasantfuneral.com
