Ioannis (Yianni) Papoutsis

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ioannis (Yianni) Papoutsis on May 8th 2023 in Vancouver, BC.

Yianni was born in Preveza,Greece. An avid fisherman and adventure seeker; he found work on ships and travelled the world. When he saw the beauty of Vancouver he decided to jump ship in 1971 and make Vancouver his home. Ever since Yianni was a mainstay in the local Greek community working in many restaurants and running his own establishment in the 1990’s.

Yianni was an authentic soul who lived life on his own terms and to the absolute fullest. He also had a quiet demeanour that drew people to him. Yianni’s family and friends will remember him as a loving, hard-working and faithful man who did not seek recognition but earned the respect of everyone.

Yianni is survived by his beloved wife Nitsa of 45 years. Proud father to George (Maria), Katerina (John, step-granddaughter Alexandra) and Andreas (Nava). He is also survived by his siblings and many nephews and nieces. Yianni will forever be in the hearts of many extended family and friends in both Canada and Greece.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17th at 7pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
