May 14, 1981 ~ December 5, 2017
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Jay Morgan Piggot announces his passing after a monumental two-year battle with cancer, on December 5, 2017, at the age of 36 years old. In the early hours of the morning, Jay slipped away peacefully surrounded with love at Lions Gate Hospital.
With the support of his family, friends, colleagues and the greater community, Jay’s tenacity and strength were awe-inspiring. In the midst of fighting for his own life, Jay achieved full-time status with the BC Ambulance Service as a paramedic, and was also selected for the elite North Shore Rescue helicopter flight rescue team.
His commitment to the rescue team and his career in paramedicine saw him continuing to save lives, even while fighting for his own. He truly embodied the search and rescue motto, "That others May Live".
In Jay’s short 36 years, he lived a life that few will live in 100 years. Before Jay embarked on his life-saving career, he also served with the Canadian Coast Guard, as a British Columbia Sherriff, and as a park ranger. No matter his pursuit, it was in the service of others.
Jay will be deeply missed by his wife of 17 years, Denise, his children, Jake and Max, his mother (Sandy), his father (Joe), his brothers (Nolan and Dereck), his aunts (Gail, Carol, Diane, Lynn, Patty, and Terry), his uncles (Mike, Norm, Steve, John, Greg, and Bob), his extended family, his friends, as well as his colleagues from North Shore Rescue and the British Columbia Ambulance Service.
A public celebration of Jay’s life will be held on December 18, 2017 at the Capilano Rugby Club, 305 Klahanie Court, West Vancouver, BC. Light refreshments will be available and the service will start at 1:00 pm sharp.
In lieu of flowers, it is Jay’s family’s wishes that donations be made to North Shore Search and Rescue.
